Termite Damage Thornlands FAQ’s
Yes. Many brick veneer homes in Thornlands are in a location with plenty of nature, green spaces around. Proximity to nature can indicate elevated termite activity. Coupled with houses that are brick skin with internal timber where the structures reach the ground can make access easier for termites. This type of house also features regularly in our repair projects.
The reality is termites are good at hiding their activity and once in your home, can create a lot of damage. Damage should be repaired as soon as possible with regular pest inspections to help with early intervention.
Structural lintels are commonly found between sections of the home, around doors and windows so, because of their structural position, do get impacted by termite activity. Lintels take a lot of weight from roof, walls etc. This role as part of a home’s vital structure also means that once impacted by termites, the damage is structural and can have substantial impact on a home’s structural integrity. It is not the kind of termite damage to leave un-repaired.
Yes, termites travel through any concealed timber framing, so that damage can include any timbers connected to the lintel. When we do intrusive inspections, we follow termite damage across lintel length, supporting structures and connected structures in the roof, up the walls and anywhere else that the termite damage evidence leads us.
As repairs happen in the lintel, it is worth noting we sometimes uncover live termites in some of these connected structures. Not only do we pause repair works but, had those repair works not even started, potential live termites – may have stayed hidden and able to continue their meal.
